Sunday Wrap Up - 24th May 2009

The shuttle should be landing sometime today! Yes, we know it was meant to land on Friday, and then on Saturday, but now they really mean it, and it should land today. Tune in to NASA TV and check it out. Especially if you have kids who can watch it with you, because it is totally awesome.

There are two additional landing opportunities Sunday on both U.S. coasts.

For the first opportunity in Florida at Kennedy Space Center, the crew would execute a deorbit burn at 7:58 a.m. and land at 9:11 a.m. The second Kennedy opportunity calls for a deorbit burn at 9:43 a.m. and landing at 10:49 a.m.

The first landing opportunity in California at Edwards Air Force Base would start with a deorbit burn at 7:43 a.m., and result in landing at 9:02 a.m. The second Edwards opportunity would begin with a deorbit burn at 9:25 a.m. and culminate in a 10:40 a.m. landing.

President Obama Calls Hubble Servicing Crew - We got a great laugh from this particular part of the call -

President Obama: I do have to just, by the way, say, Captain, that you and Dr. Grunsfeld as Illinoisans, you know I’ve gotta give you a special shout out.

Atlantis: Well, thanks very much, my sister was just asking today to take a picture of Chicago as we went by. We were able to see it in the distance and take a picture so we can send that along as well.

President Obama: Outstanding. We’ll I’ve gotta get a copy of that picture. Maybe I … did you guys see my house? I’m trying to figure out if my lawn is getting mowed there. I haven’t been back for a couple of months.

Some excellent marriage advice from Paula to Charcoal -

Congrats! My marriage advice? Keep having sex! It’s the best way to stay close, kiss and make up and feel intimately connected. When you can’t have sex, write notes, do romatic things, buy unexpected (but very special) little gifts. Enjoy your new life!!!!!!!!

goes to TBNT Judy for this nugget of amazing information which I will shortly be going to check out in person once the moon rises here!

How gorgeous is this view and what a great shot. If you rotate the moon by a quarter turn clockwise, you will see the seated profile of a standard poodle. So, yes, there is a poodle in the moon!

Question for you -

As you are all aware, this week we lost a mudpuppy who absolutely adored the swaps and mail stuff we have done at the forums. We’d like to arrange a new swap in memory of Kenny, but what should we swap this time?

In the past we’ve done a Secret Santa, we’ve done candy for valentines day, we did a postcard swap, and we have done magnets (or as the Admins like to call them, Magnuts).

Bear in mind if we are sending internationally there are some limits on what you can and cannot send.. but what would you like to see us swap next?

All ideas will be taken on board and are greatly appreciated. ;) Let us know via the comments, or via the contact us form.

Sunday Wrap Up

Each week on I Heart The Mudflats, we will bring you a wrap up of share-worthy things we have spotted during the week.

Our favourite link for the week -

The Official White House Photostream

Official white house photographer Pete Souza has been a busy bee - there are over 300 images in the photostream already. Even better, these images are available for all of us to use as long as we attribute them properly (see the “some rights reserved” link for more info on that). Bearing in mind there are many brilliant shots in the stream, here is our favourite shot -

Sephyroth advises that these are the 3d glasses which were given away at grocery stores across America in February - and that President Obama is wearing his inside out.. and from the comments section of the image joshleejosh notes -

Even in their own home theater, the statuesque Obamas take the classic too-tall pose, slumped way down low in their seats. Public service.

@ I Heart The Mudflats -
