Brian’s New Year’s Eve Festivities

From Mod Pacos Gal:

Brian rang in the New Year of 2010 with a grand trip that encompassed various time zones and countries. We asked mudpuppies everywhere to grab their cameras and take a picture if you happened to see him. I am not positive but really Brian had to have made a deal with Santa for Rudolph’s services. He just made it everywhere, stopped to say hi, have dinner, do some babysitting, shovel snow, take in the sites and enjoy all the various activities and that a New Years Eve can bring.

We’ll start you off with the original Brian in Alaska, wishing everyone a Happy New Year.

Mlaiuppa’s Five Faves

From Mudpuppy Mlaiuppa:

5. Bento Lunches

This livejournal community is focused on bento lunches. I’m just starting to explore it as an observer and haven’t joined in yet. I want to get some practice bentos under my belt first.

4. Adventures in Bentomaking

A recent find of mine, I’m still exploring the archives of past posts. It’s not that easy to find bento lunch sites that cater to adults. I’ve skipped quite a few that seem to focus on cartoon kid’s lunches.

3. Kitchen Cow

Kitchen Cow offers some nice adult bentos but isn’t strictly bento only. And even the bentos aren’t always traditional. My dining is eclectic and so are my leftovers, so when I’m not making something specifically for lunch, I’ll be making a non-traditional bento from what’s left over from dinner.

2. Lunch in a Box

Lunch in a box offers some really great resources. I used their links store locator to find five stores in my area that have bento supplies. I’ll be checking them out today. Also has recipe links and other fun stuff.

1. Just Bento

The very first bento site I found and still my all time favorite site. Clean, attractive and informative. This is what inspired me to start to get into bento. I brown bagged the entire school year and if I have to continue to do that (which looks likely) I’d like a little something special at lunch. It also seems to be very conducive to a healthy diet and portion sizing. My bento boxes haven’t arrived yet (eBay), but in looking at the pictures on this and other sites, I’m worried that I can’t eat all of this food, not that I’ll go hungry.

Erin’s Five Faves

From Admin Erin:

5. Go Fug Yourself

Tagline: Fugly is the new pretty.
This site is like sitting down with your best girlfriend and watching a celebrity fashion show. Like the old saying goes, “If you can’t say something nice, come sit by me.”

4. This is Why You’re Fat

Pictures and descriptions of some of the most disgustingly fatty, yet compelling food in the world. Today’s submission: The Miles Dog, A hot dog covered with cheese, tomatoes, grilled onions, ketchup, guacamole, and several slices of bacon. Yum.

3. Tom and Lorenzo

Tagline: Fabulous and Opinionated
Project Runway is back on August 20th, and Tom and Lorenzo will be critiquing ever design and every designer, all season long.

2. The Bloggess

Tagline: Like Mother Teresa, Only Better
If you like funny, random posts with some mild (okay, not so mild) cursing, this is the site for you. She makes me spit juice on the computer screen about twice a week.

1. Life’s a Feast

Tagline: Confessions of a Gourmonde
This site is expertly written by our very own Jamie (a Mudflats Moderator), an American living in France. Jamie is an amazing cook whose scrumptious recipes and mouth-watering pictures are only topped by her vivid descriptions.

5. Bee Dogs

Answering that great question: what can I do to embarrass my dog?

4. Best Friends Animal Society

Whether you want to save the world, one animal at a time, or see what others are doing to help our furry friends, or you just want a different kind of vacation this year, Best Friends is the place to go.

3. Stuff on My Cat

When you are through embarrassing your dog with bee costumes, step on over to stuffonmycat for some more fun.

2. The Arcata Eye

The mildly objectionable weekly newspaper for my town. I recommend starting with the Police Log.

1. Cake Wrecks

As a retired cake decorator I never get tired of this site.
