Thank you for writing this. I had to go through the experience of doing a DNR for my father when he was dying of cancer. It's much better for all of us to make those decisions when we are fully capable than it is to leave it to someone else or some uncaring system.

Thank you for this.

I have just returned home from spending time with my mother who died in peace and dignity because, with support of her doctors, people around her put their own fear and sadness aside and thought only of what she wanted and what was best for her.

The compassionate care and love which filled her final days are what I hope for everyone.

A powerful piece of writing, Sherry. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience.

You are so right when you say -

"Having doctors advise patients of the wisdom of determining what kind of medical care they will receive and when before they can no longer voice their wishes is a good and compassionate thing to do."

The key words for me were 'good' and 'compassionate'.

Thank you.

Thankyou so much for sharing your knowledge, wisdom and personal experience.

Your father now rests and you must have no regrets about his choices. I am sure that is what he wanted too. We don´t want to be a burden in life and we don´t want to leave them with an emotional burden in death.
