123 and Counting
We’ve all heard about Governor Sanford’s little “Argentina problem”, but have you been wondering just how many GOP’ers have been nabbed doing something that would shock their mothers? Over at TheoPalinism: The Face of Failed Extremism, author (and Mudpuppy) Leah Burton has posted a list of 123 of them.
Here’s an excerpt:
Jim Bunn Congressman of Oregon: With his success due in great part to support from the Christian Coalition, Bunn won his congressional seat, then immediately ditched his wife (and mother of his five children), married a staffer, and put his new wife on the state payroll for the unheard-of salary of $97,500.
John Allen Burt, Republican anti-abortion activist from Pensacola, Florida, convicted on five counts of sexually molesting a 15 year old girl at the home for troubled girls that he ran. Burt began molesting her within weeks of her arrival at Our Father’s House, the ministery half-way house for unwed mothers established in 1978 by Burt and his wife. Burt was a known violent anti-abortionist and saw himself as a member of an army for God.
Richard A. Dasen Sr., Republican benefactor of conservative Christian groups, convicted of sexual abuse of children, promotion of prostitution and several counts of solicitation, enough to add up to a sentence of 126 years in prison. Investigators estimated that he spent up to $5,000,000 on prostitutes.
Brian J. Doyle, Deputy Press Secretary for U.S. Department of Homeland Security. On March 12, 2006, Doyle contacted a 14-year-old girl whose profile was posted on the Internet, and initiated a sexually explicit conversation with her. The girl was actually an undercover Polk County Sheriff s Computer Crimes detective. Doyle knew that the girl was 14 years old, and he told her who he was and that he worked for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. During future onlinechats, Doyle gave the undercover detective posing as a 14-year-old girl his office phone number and his government-issued cell phone number, so that they could have telephone conversations, in addition to their online chatting. Doyle used the Internet to send hard-core pornographic movie clips to the girl and used the AOL Instant Messenger chat service to have explicit sexual conversations with her.
What a Grand Ol’ Party it is.

You know the right will counter with “but Democrats are guilty too”.
So we have a comparison list? I’ll bet much shorter. And less aggregious.

_________
But the Dems don’t go around trying to force “Biblical” family values, gaybashing, crying immorality, Godless nation, etc. These R shield themselves with their Bibles to hide all sorts of sins. Democrats, everyone knows, don’t mind a good BJ now and then, nor do they care if you and hubby, or hubby and boyfriend or you and boyfriend enjoy one either.
It’s the hypocracy.
The more “religious” someone claims to be, the less trustworthy I find them.

Thank you for posting this! It is a compilation from many sites with my added ‘comments’. It is impossible to resist! I will be updating this list every 2 weeks and reposting it. There are many internet sources out there, but we aren’t reading them, so I am doing my part to make this information as available as possible. It was reposted to Democratic Underground as well.
And Paula, you are correct. I tried to cover that topic of Dem vs Reps in the narrative preceding the list, but I think people are skipping the narrative. I would be the last one to make any claim of purity on behalf of Dems! But it is the piety and theocratic legislative crap that gives the Rs a different place on my radar.
Warmest….Leah

Sanford isn’t listed yet. (It’s alphabetical and I couldn’t find him where he was supposed to be.)
So that’s 124 and counting.
Did anyone find any missing born again right wingers that should have been included but weren’t?
