An Irish Heart..

Mudflats Moderator IrishGirl sent us this I Heart The Mudflats image -

irish11

Like so many other people, I found The Mudflats just after Sarah Palin was nominated by John McCain. AKM’s writing and the witty and informative comments of fellow mudpuppies kept me sane and laughing through those scary months.

Now I feel privileged to be a part of this….I have made so many friends around the world. I have had coffee with Irish and American mudpups here in Dublin, chatted on the phone to Jamie in France, sent magnets to Alaska, Virginia and Conneticut, and stayed up waaay too late at night talking to the moderators. I hearts The Mudflats!!

Brian is quite the well traveled moose isn’t he? Wonder if he is related to the only other famous moose I know about, Bullwinkle!!

I, too, stumbled across Mudflats, but after the election. Now I have to stand up and say,”I’m Gramiam, and I’m a Mudpuppy!
Glad to know you, Irish. One of my fantasies is to travel to Ireland. If I get there, I’ll let you know I’m coming.

    Yes TiredMom,

That was your “Brian.” He is held in high esteem here!!
How he found his way from Virginia to Dublin I’ll never know, but rest assured, he is in good hands here!!

We are not going to shoot him under any circumstances! It just occurred to me that he hasn’t been fed since his arrival, he has been hanging around on my filing cabinet…..

    Paula and justafarmer…loved your websites.

aaaw, ta Irishgirl! Hope to have a new and well improved site up soonest (much along the lines of my original and now defunct website with loads of farm photos and info).
BTW, I’ve been to England and Scotland several times but my “visits” to Ireland have just been flyovers. Such a shameful thing as a half-Irish girl myself … my people were Sheridans for County Cavan and Hooleys from who knows where, those Hooleys were (shhh!) Feenians and I can tell a family tale about how they were part of an attempt to invade and hold Canada hostage right after the American Civil War. (During my university years in the 1980s I actually researched the family tales and learned they were indeed TRUE, and it all is soooo quintessential Irish!)

    Mag the Mick Says:

How’re yeh, Irish Girl? Just a note to say I enjoyed the visit to your corner of the blogosphere. I’m Maggie, nom de guerre Mag the Mick, and live in far southern Arizona, just on this side of the Mexican border. My Grand Da was a Belfast man, very active in the early union movement there and a devoted follower of James Connolly. He was from a staunch Calvinist family, but his only belief was in the solidarity of the working man. My Grand Mam was a Catholic from Kerry, working as a maid in a big Belfast house when they met in 1912. They married and left the country for Canada in 1913, whether it was because of political troubles or their mixed marriage has always been a mystery. They drove the family Ford down to Amerikey in 1919, where their kids were born and lived here as illegal immigrants for the rest of their lives. I have great friends in south Dublin (Ballinteer) and out in Doolin, and used to come over regularly, back when I had the few extra punt in my pocket. Now that I’m retired and in genteel poverty, I can only dream of returning. I play concertina, was in several Irish grops when I lived in Alaska, ad am still mad for my old flame Paul Brady.

I hope you’re surviving the crash and burn of the Celtic Tiger. I always enjoy seeing your comments on the Mudflats pages, and hope to continue doing so. Take care, and mind yourself.

Waves to you, Irish Girl, and to Irish ‘Brian’ from southern CA.

  17. 17
    Irishgirl Says:

    Mag the Mick,

Ballinteer is five minutes from where I live!!! If I drive fast…

I enjoyed hearing about your family history. Hubby worked in Belfast for a bit, tough place…he was a Southerner up there, but he got through it.

The Celtic Tiger is crashing and burning, we are ok at the moment, but hubby has to leave the country for 6 months regarding work…and that sucks. However, there is so much unemployment around, we are thankful that at least he has a job.

    @Curiouser,
    Big wave back to CA!

and, oooh, it’s waaaay past muddy here in eastern Kentucky now!

    Paula Says:

Very muddy here, too farmer, or should I say dear sister? Looks like the garden weeds will be getting WAY ahead of me. I won’t need newspaper…the weedwacker maybe? UGH!

    justafarmer Says:

still muddy as all getout here (one of my fields is a pond at the moment). But one of my fave things about this time of year is finding “volunteers” in the various fields. Today we found volunteer cucumbers, squash, dill and cilantro, as well as a very healthy looking garlic. Of course, there are the usual thousands of volunteer tomatillos everywhere..haven’t had to deliberately plant any of those is years.
I’ve got a photo I took yesterday of one of my dogs in the backyard, he’s almost completely hidden in the tall grass/hay (that just got mowed a week ago!)

    Paula Says:

The hay is doing well here, too. The last few years have been really bad, so I was glad to see some farmers taking their first cutting before May 1st. It keeps raining, which is yucky, but good for the crops, and to keep the water level up for kayaking! One of these days the sun will come back out and everything will just go wild.
